Featured Amateur Sports Team in WNY
Editor’s note: This is the first of many features we will be doing on amateur sports programs in the Western New York area.
Recently our staff went out to check out one local sports program that is making a HUGE difference in lives of our youth in the Western New York community. The Cheektowaga Soccer Club is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1993 by a group of parents whose children played soccer in the Maryvale School District. The club now registers over 850 players each year in house and travel soccer leagues. The club has expanded from its origins in the Maryvale School District and now includes all Cheektowaga School Districts and any residents of the town of Cheektowaga and surrounding towns. Originally called the Maryvale/Cheektowaga Soccer Club, the organization was renamed the Cheektowaga Soccer Club in March 2001.
The club has been able to develop programs which offer an opportunity for kids to learn about soccer through all four seasons. The club has always prided itself on quality soccer instruction for beginners and advanced players while advancing its main goal of promoting youth soccer and the ideals of fair play, teamwork, and good sportsmanship through healthy competition.
Along with the various soccer programs offered, CSC has created the Kenneth Nowak Scholarship Award in the memory of one of its dedicated volunteers.
